MALACANANG said Monday that the release of the performance-based bonus (PBB) of government employees depends on the department's compliance of the requirements and not being given on a particular season.

Malacanang explains why other govt' employees not yet received performance bonuses

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte made the clarification after complaints by some teachers and other government employees that they have not yet received their PBB six months after an executive order was issued on the matter.

"The release of the PBB is dependent on a department's compliance with the documentation requirements," she said.

In the case of the public school teachers, the Palace official noted that the Department of Education (DepEd) is now 50 percent finished in validating the performance/accomplishment reports submitted by its field offices.

"They (DepEd officials) expect to submit these requirements to DBM (Department of Budget and Management) as soon as possible," she said.

Valte added that the PBB "is not meant to be given during a certain season but is intended to really be performance-based as set out in Executive Order 80."

With the PBB, the Aquino administration scrapped the previous practice by the government agencies of giving out uniformed bonuses to the employees during the end of the year based on their savings.--Source: Sun Star
