LTFRB hopes to curb crimes: Driving Academy, IDs for taxi drivers

Had enough of bad taxi drivers?

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) launched on Saturday the first-ever Public Utility Drivers Academy in Quezon City, and pushed for a unified ID system for taxi drivers in an effort to reduce crimes, a DZMM report said.

LTFRB chairman Atty. Winston Ginez said that the "Academy" offers a 2-day refresher course for all public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers on land transportation and traffic code, proper behavior and personality development.

The first batch to attend the academy, which is located at the Holy Family School in Maginhawa Street in Diliman, Quezon City, are the school service drivers.

The next batch will be announced later.

New IDs for taxi drivers

Ginez also said he will meet with taxi operators on Monday in an effort to address crimes involving taxis and other public utility vehicles.

The said meeting will also mandate operators to make their own IDs, based on the prescribed design and content of the LTFRB.

The IDs, about one half the size of a bond paper, will be required to be hung over the rearview mirror, back-to-back and in full view of the passengers.
