'Bar Exams Must-Haves' - Brains, prayers and ... plastic bags

The 2014 Bar Examinations in the Philippines for all aspiring lawyers shall be held on four consecutive Sundays of October on 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila.

All 6,344 graduates will be needing a lot of brain power and a lot of prayers when they finally troop to the UST Hall this Sunday. But one barrister needs one more item to carry when he or she goes to the examination room.

A plastic container.

In a memorandum, the country's Supreme Court advised the bar-takers to use transparent containers or see-through bags for their books, Bar materials and other items as part of the security measures for the annual test.

According to Manila Standard Today, Supreme Court Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta said the “transparent or see-through bags” policy will help expedite the inspection of the examinees’ belongings by the security personnel at the University of Sto. Tomas where the Bar examinations will be held. Peralta is chairman of the 2014 Bar committee.

The memorandum added that “all examinees should place their books, Bar materials, pens, food, water and other personal items inside transparent or see-through bags, clear zip-lock bags, pouches, lunch boxes, clear water containers, and other similar containers.”

This year’s Bar examinees is higher than last year’s 5, 293 and the 5, 343 in 2012.

The Bar exams will cover such areas as Political Law, Labor Law, Civil Law, Taxation, Mercantile Law, Criminal Law, Remedial Law and Legal and Judicial Ethics.
