The Smart, Sun free internet promo - Will subscribers go for it?

Today, the Philippine Long Distance Corp. (PLDT), the country’s biggest telecommunications company through its chairman Manny V. Pangilinan. announced they will be offering free mobile internet to its 66 million prepaid subscribers for the next two months.

Prepaid subscribers of Smart, Talk ’N Text, and Sun Cellular will be provided free internet starting Friday until Nov. 3, which Pangilinan say is to let Filipinos "try out and experience the Internet" and "enjoy its benefits."

Subscribers can access the internet either through data-capable feature phones or smartphones running on Android, iOS and Windows operating systems.

However, the promo comes with certain limitations.

Including a daily limit of 30 megabytes per day, after which a subscriber will be asked if he wants to purchase additional prepaid credits.

Prepaid subscribers using the free promo will also be charged the regular rate for downloading videos, using file sharing and messaging applications.

The questions most subscribers now ask are -- will the free internet speed be that fast to satisfy them and entice them to make use of the Internet more often. Or would they just be disappointed again because of poor, slow connections.

We looked and asked around the neighborhood and here's some comments.

One person said,

"ano kaya ang catch -10mbps ang speed? paasa epek as in mas matagal kang nakanganga kesa naconnect?"

Another said,

"Ngayon nga lang ang bagal-bagal na, gagawa pa kayo ng promo."

But one countered and said,

"Let's give Smart a chance. Malay mo, baka mas bumilis na sya ngayon."

Still another said,

"Lumang gimmick na yan! Matagal nang meron nyan sa Globe."

We're sure MVP and the rest of the PLDT management has the best intentions on launching this promo, but subscribers are still keeping their fingers crossed if they can, at last, really "enjoy the benefits" of a fast, reliable and easy Internet access.
