Good news to all registered firearms license holders -- their licenses that will expire this year will remain valid until 2015.
This after PNP chief Alan Purisima approved the extension of the validity extension of registered firearms.
According to the PNP, the extension of the validity of firearms licenses will allow PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) to refocus more on the information technology enhancements of the firearms registration system under the newly enacted Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law of 2013.
PNP Civil Security Group Director Melito Mabilin and FEO Chief Superintendent Virgilio Moro Lazo said the extension of the validity of these firearms licenses was prompted by considerations regarding the period of publication of the revised fees and charges for registration and licensing requirements.
Mabilin said the information technology system for firearms registration is currently being upgraded to meet the demands of the service and the stakeholders.
He added that the upgrading is crucial to the success of the licensing requirements to meet the demands of the service and the stakeholders. --Source: PIA/PNP
