This is a nasty illustration on why you should not text while walking or crossing a street.
In Dagupan, Pangasinan, a 26-year-old woman who was allegedly busy texting while crossing the street was hit by an armored van.
The woman, identified as Marites Diaz, was on her way to work when the incident occurred.
Diaz works as a saleslady at a department store.
According to witnesses, the victim was texting while crossing the street, which may have caused her not to notice the incoming van.
The victim survived but sustained fractures in her left leg.
"Hindi niya nakita kasi tumatawid. Tapos napahiga na siya, napailalim doon sa van," witness Francisca Cornista said.
The driver of the armored van, Ely Ramos, said he also did not notice the victim.
Teresita Diaz, mother of the victim, appealed to the agency that owns the armored van to shoulder the hospital expenses of her daughter.
"Hindi po kami magdedemanda basta sagutin nila... Kasi paano magtatrabaho iyan," she said.
Meanwhile, police advised pedestrians not to use their cellphones when crossing the streets to prevent any untoward incident. --Source: ABS-CBN News
