A portion of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) will soon be closed to traffic for 10 days to give way to the ongoing repair of the Magallanes Interchange in Makati City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Saturday, July 12.
Set to be closed to vehicular traffic is the Alabang-bound portion of the expressway coming from Manila towards the Magallanes Interchange.
MMDA Traffic Engineering Center (TEC) Director Neomi Recio said the segment is part of a project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) which will end by December 2014.
The schedule of the 10-day road closure has not been set pending the issuance of permits by Makati City Hall, which has jurisdiction over the subject area.
Once the lane is totally closed, all southbound and northbound traffic will be diverted to the service road, Recio said. But a concrete wall blocking a big portion of the service road has to be removed first to clear more space for vehicles.
Recio explained the wall should be dismantled to open up the service road for southbound vehicles. The decision when to tear down the structure is with the city government.
In a related development, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino has approved the request of DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson to be allowed to extend the working hours of repair works at the Magallanes Interchange to 24 hours during Sundays.--Source: Solar News
