As anti-US protesters clashed with riot police near the US Embassy in Manila during the Philippine-American Friendship Day, July 4, a female cop charmed the crowd, easing tension between the activists and the policemen.
Police Officer 1 (P01) Aurea Jane Manalaysay was quick to flash a smile while photographers flash their cameras during the dispersal of protesters from the League of Filipino Students (LFS) and other groups called for the junking of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), expanded military cooperation between the U.S. and the Philippines.
The lady cop has been a riot policewoman for nearly two years now having been assigned in the Manila Police District Public Safety Battalion (DPSB) -- the special unit handling crowd dispersals.
When asked by reporters how she feels being the only girl assigned in the battalion, she said:
