The concluding mass of Pope Francis at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila was his most biggest crowd ever with an estimated six million audience -- and he rode a jeepney to get there.
The Pope took the "jeepney ride" from the Apostolic Nunciature to the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta, his first taste of what's it like being an ordinary Filipino commuter.
Pope Francis and the white "pope jeep" made the rounds in a motorcade around quadrants in the Quirino Grandstand to greet the millions who stood in the rain to see him and receive his blessings.
Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. Originally made from U.S. military jeeps left over from World War 2, they are known for their crowded seating and flamboyant decorations, which have become a symbol of Philippine culture and art.
Three popemobiles
The "pope jeep" is one of the three popemobiles used by the Pope for his five-day visit to the Philippines.
The other popemobiles, an Isuzu Dmax and a Kia pick-up, were used in his motorcades in Manila and in Tacloban, Leyte respectively.
