Don't be surprised when the next time you ride a taxicab, you'll experience police personnel conducting inspections by way of checkpoints set up in different parts of Metro Manila.
Secretary Mar Roxas, chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) gave this instruction to the Philippine National Police - National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) to fight crimes perpetrated by criminal taxi drivers.
Aside from the taxis, vans will also be inspected to help ensure the safety of the metro commuters, especially this holiday season.
The new directive came amid the series of crimes involving taxi drivers who rob their passengers, and reports of men in vans allegedly abducting women and children.
