Now, it's for real.
Without the use of wires or any special effects, champion skateboarder Tony Hawk tested the first real hoverboard ever to be produced.
The hoverboard was the popular wheeled gadget imagined in the 1980s hit film Back to the Future, where the lead character Marty McFly (portrayed by Michael J. Fox) used to glide around town.
The test ride was held at the Hendo company lab in in Los Gatos, California, and riding with Hawk was The RIDE Channel's Dave Carnie.
The technology behind the hoverboard is its specially designed four disc-shaped hover engines with opposing magnetic field that provides the lift.
According to Hendo, the first 10 hoverboards with a price tag of $10,000 have been sold out before they were even released.
Pricey?
No worries. Hendo also offers a developer kit so that anyone can make their own hoverboard for a fraction of the cost.
