With the approval of House Bill 5068, students will soon get to enjoy a 20-percent fare discount on all kinds of public transportation.
House Bill 5068, otherwise known as "An Act Institutionalizing the Grant of Student Fare Discount Privileges on Public Transportation and for other purposes" provides that students below 30 years of age can avail of the discount during schooldays.
However, they are required to present school-issued identification card or current validated enrollment forms when they avail of the discounts.
HB 5068 was filed by Quezon City Representative Alfredo Vargas III.
Where to file complaints
If a public transportation refuses to give fare discounts, the students may file complaints with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for land transportation, Maritime Industry Authority and Civil Aeronautics Board for sea, air and water transportation utilities and Department of Transportation and Communications for those riding the Light Rail Transit System and the Manila Metro Rail Transit System.
As sanction, drivers and owners/operators of public transportation utilities will be given penalties such as suspension of driver's license or a fine.
