The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has finally approved the "four-day work week" scheme for all government employees.
Under the new work scheme, though not mandatory to all existing state agencies, a government office can implement a Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday work schedule, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with an hour off for lunch break.
However, the agency's Public Information Office director, Liza Agamata in a DZMM radio interview, said that there are few requirements before a government office can implement the program.
- The front line services of government offices must be made accessible to the public through the Internet, containing full information about processes and procedures.
- Government offices should also have a "one-stop shop," and must not affect the quality and quantity of front line services.
- A serviceable and functional call center wherein the officers of the day must be capable of responding to all the queries of the callers in relation to transactions.
- The government office should also have baseline data on the performance of all their employees.
Agamata said the program's focus is still for a better public service. This authority can be immediately revoked if complaints arise due to non-service.
The four-day work week program is created to help ease the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila.
