Not only are the Filipinos the world's most selfie addicts, but they are now also officially the most sociable online race in the world.
In a global study by UM, a key global agency within the IPG Mediabrands’ network, it was revealed that Filipinos now lead the world in the amount of time spent socializing online: 53 hours on average a week versus the global average of 42 hours.
“With some 11 million Filipinos living overseas, social networking has become a way to connect and communicate with friends and family,” UM said in a press release of the survey dubbed “Wave 7.”
According to the study, 74 percent used social media to keep in touch, 70 percent to meet new people, 65 percent to have fun, 63 percent to share new experiences, and 62 percent to keep company.
The survey, which represents more than 1 billion active Internet users, noted that “Internet is indispensable to the Filipinos, satisfying their core human needs of relationship (sharing experiences and emotions), diversion (entertainment and relaxation), progression (career and financial status), recognition (expressing opinions and earning respect), and learning (exploring the world and keeping up-to-date).”--Source: News5 InterAksyon
