No more MRT tickets for free Makati bus shuttle rides

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Monday has dropped its requirement of having train passengers buy a Metro Rail Transit single journey ticket before taking the free shuttle of the Makati City government.

But according to Chairman Winston Ginez, the Board can only allow commuters going to Makati for work under the city’s Ordinance 2014-025, or the “Libreng Sakay  ng Makati Ordinance.”

Those who wish to ride the service from Ayala Avenue station to Quezon City’s North Avenue station and vice versa must present a valid Makati-company identification card, he noted.

The Board composed of Ginez, executive director Roberto Cabrera III and Ronaldo Corpus backtracked on the train ticket requirement acquiesing to Mayor Erwin Jejomar Binay’s May 30 motion for reconsideration.

The LTFRB’s ordinance’s Section 2 states that “Government and private workers and employees assigned in Makati City, after presenting due proof, shall be entitled to free ride on a first-come-first-served basis.”

Under the free transport service, commuters can avail of point-to-point, non-stop trips.

The LTFRB’s issuance of the special permit for Makati to operate a shuttle bus service using six units was based on the understanding that the local government unit would comply with the two conditions stated in the Order of the Board dated May 16.--Source: Manila Standard Today
