If you're an avid fan of reality star Porsha Williams and saw her sex video link on Facebook, think twice before clicking that link.
Security researcher Graham Cluley said the scam claims to link to a sex tape video of Williams, one of the stars of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
"Now fraudsters are playing on the gullibility of devoted reality TV fans, by claiming that one of the combatants (Kenya Moore) has released a sex tape of her rival Porsha Williams as a form of revenge," Cluley said in a blog post.
He said this was after a reported fight at a recording of the Real Housewives reunion show, between Williams and Moore.
Clicking on the links will bring the victim to a fake Facebook page telling them they can only view the “restricted” video content "if [they] share the link with online Facebook friends first."
This way, Cluley said the scammers can potentially dupe users into spreading their link far and wide.
Victims who click on the link are taken to a fake YouTube page that asks them to do an online survey.
A variation of the scam tells victims they need to verify their age before viewing the video, with a survey offering prizes like Apple or Samsung products.
"(The scammers) earn affiliate cash each and every time someone makes the mistake of completing one of the surveys. The victims don’t get to see a sex tape at the end of it, but the fraudsters have made themselves that little bit richer, and the link has been shared further across Facebook," Cluley said.
"In the worst cases, the outcome of the attack may not just be more money in the pockets of internet scammers – but also the delivery of malware onto the visiting computers of innocent users," he added.
Cluley advised Facebook users to "always think twice about the links that you click on and share via social networks." --Source: GMA News
