Toyota Philippines said units of Innova, Fortuner, and Hilux sold from November 2004 to June 2010 are covered by the global recall announced Wednesday due to defects in their spiral cable retainer.
Toyota said the defect may cause the driver airbag to fail, but the automotive firm also said no such incidents have been reported in the country.
Toyota didn't say how many of the 6.4 million recalled around the world are here in the Philippines.
The company said it will replace this part and will inform all buyers of the affected units.
Owners of these units should contact any Toyota dealer or call the company at 812-2912 for more information or to schedule the replacement.
Toyota on Wednesday said it was recalling 6.39 million vehicles worldwide for five different problems.
In October 2012, Toyota announced a global recall of 7.43 million vehicles, including its popular Camry and Corolla models, over a possible fire risk, while in February it recalled 1.9 million of its signature Prius hybrid cars.
Last month, the Japanese automaker agreed to pay $1.2 billion to settle US criminal charges that it lied to safety regulators and the public as it tried to cover up deadly accelerator defects.
Dozens of deaths were blamed on the defects, which caused vehicles to speed out of control and fail to respond to the brake.--Source: ABS-CBN News
