A "selfie" posted on Facebook led to the arrest of a rape suspect who had been hiding from the law for years, police authorities said on Friday.
S/Insp. Romel Luga, chief of Mandaue City Police Office, identified the suspect as Niño Cueva.
Luga said that Cueva posted a selfie with the Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Barangay Lapaz, Bogo town, as the background.
The Mandaue City police then referred the case to the Bogo City police, whose members served the warrant.
Luga said that the suspect is being hunted down for allegedly raping a high school student.
He said Cueva, a passenger motorcycle driver and resident of Barangay Casili in Mandaue, brought the passenger to a secluded area and raped her there.
The arrest warrant against Cueva was issued in 2012 by the Mandaue City Regional Trial Court Branch 14.
The suspect is now under the Mandaue City police's custody.--Source: Philstar
