A driver who rammed his bus into two buses early Saturday morning in Commonwealth, Quezon City fled the scene of the accident, went to a food stall to eat breakfast before surrendering to police authorities, a radio news report said.
Mario Rogelio Jr., a driver of a Nova Auto Transport bus, said he chose to eat breakfast “due to nervousness” before giving himself up to authorities, according to a DZMM report.
“Rogelio denied that he was speeding. He also apologized to the passengers,” the same report said, referring to the 44 passengers who were hurt in a three-bus collision that took place at the Philcoa area along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Most of those injured were passengers of the Nova Auto Transport bus that Rogelio was driving, the report said.
They were all brought to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment after their heads hit the bus’ steel chairs.
At around six in the morning, the Nova bus bound for Baclaran was speeding when the accident happened, according to the drivers of the Safeway and Marikina Autoline buses.
The bus Rogelio was driving ran into the Welcome Rotonda-bound Safeway bus as it was dropping off passengers in Philcoa, the report said. At the same time, it also sideswiped a Marikina Autoline bus headed for Ayala Avenue in Makati City.
All three bus drivers were later brought to the Quezon City Traffic Sector 5 for questioning, the report said.
Authorities will file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to properties against the three bus drivers, the report said.
Nova Auto Transport is also owned by Don Mariano Transit, which bus fell off the Skyway in December 2013 killing 18 people.--Source: Yahoo Philippines
