A former basketball player was arrested on Wednesday by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for allegedly carrying a stash of the drug "Ecstasy" at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.

PDEA authorities said they will not be divulging the identity of the suspect as this may jeopardize further follow-up operations, but said the basketball player goes by the alias, "Rey."

Earlier, a radio report said that the suspect was a former collegiate player who tried his luck in professional basketball but did not make it.

PDEA spokesman Derric Carreon did not say if the suspect played in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines or in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

“Yes, he is a former basketball player and he was arrested at the BGC parking grounds at around 2 a.m.”, Carreon told news website InterAksyon.com on the phone.

Thirty capsules of suspected “fly-high” Ecstacy and a bottle containing what they believe as “liquid Ecstacy” were seized from the suspect, Carreon said.

The suspect's Ford Mustang was also impounded for evidence.
