World-renowned designer Kenneth Cobonpue introduces the Eclipse, the Filipino pedicab of the future which lets you charge your iPhone while resting your Starbucks coffee in its cup holders.
What more can a regular fashionista guy or gal need inside a pedicab?
Kenneth Cobonpue, a Filipino designer, launches a new kind of vehicle inspired by the very popular Pinoy transportation commonly known as the pedicab or "padyak."
Called the Eclipse, Cobonpue's design takes on a more modern and classy look of the pedicab, giving it additional features one won't see in any ordinary pedicabs.
In an article from GMA News, it said Cobonpue's Eclipse is a “more civilized version of the humble three-wheeler” pedicab which was designed with urban centers in mind.
It has an iPhone docking base, speakers, cup holders, and cooling fans within its moon-shaped body. Because of its open design, panels on either side of the pedicab can be brought down for added privacy. A cover of acrylic fabric can also be drawn around it to protect passengers from errant puddles and rainshowers.
Cobonpue said:
“The most challenging aspect is getting people to rethink their traditional modes of transportation,”
Made of aluminum and woven with recyclable polyethylene, this composition of circles forms a lightweight frame bound in place with a tight weave, and covered on the top with insulated acrylic fabric. The seats, handlebars and headrests are made of hand-stitched weatherproof vinyl and fabric.
