Three women spurned by their lovers led two separate attacks in Valenzuela and Malabon Monday night, according to police authorities.

"Scorned" women attack with acid, knife

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Or so as English playwright and poet William Congreve wrote in his 1697 play, "The Mourning Bride".

Mr. Congreve might have wrote that all-too-popular phrase to give stern warning to men, that thou shalt not reject a woman lest you want thy face be burned by acid or a knife be impaled on thy skull.

In Valenzuela and Malabon cities, north of Manila, three "scorned" women figured in two separate attacks against their love enemies.

In Valenzuela, Beejay Martinez and her friend, identified only as “Irene,” threw acid at the face of Martinez’s ex-boyfriend, Raymond Rodriguez, 26, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento.

In Malabon City, Mylene dela Cruz was stabbed in the head by a woman identified only as “Danica,” reportedly over a man.

Martinez, 31, was arrested by barangay tanods but her friend escaped.

Armamento told The STAR that Rodriguez visited Martinez at a clinic in Feliza Building, where she works as a cashier.

While Rodriguez was waiting for her at the clinic’s receiving area at past 8 p.m., Martinez and her friend threw acid at his face and beat him up with metal pipes.

Rodriguez managed to escape and ask for assistance from barangay tanods on the street.

Martinez admitted attacking her ex-boyfriend, but refused to say why. She also plans to file charges against Rodriguez, but did not elaborate on the nature of the charges, Armamento said.

Rodriguez was initially brought to the Our Lady of Fatima Hospital but was later transferred to the Chinese General Hospital in Manila.

Woman vs. Woman: Love triangle

An investigator said Dela Cruz and Danica were allegedly rivals in love.

Dela Cruz, 19, was reported to be in critical condition at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, where she was brought with a fan knife still embedded near the base of her skull.

According to a police report, Dela Cruz and her cousin were walking in Barangay Longos at around 8 p.m. when Danica accosted her.

The confrontation became physical, with the two women pulling each other’s hair. When Danica drew the fan knife, Dela Cruz tried to flee, but Danica ran after her and stabbed her in the head.--Source: Philstar
