The event which was held at the Quirino grandstand, was organized by the Philippine Commission on Women.

The human formation of the cross-like scientific symbol was expected to make it into the Guinness World Records book.

Event organiser Gilda Patricia Maquilan said the aim of the human formation was to empower women.

"We want to reaffirm our commitment to create an enabling environment for women to become better in what they do. In that way, they can help in uplifting the lives of their family and their communities," Ms Maquilan said.

An estimated crowd of 10-thousand, coming from government offices, state universities and colleges, civil society groups and the private sector, joined the formation.

The UN theme for International Women's Day 2014, which is celebrated every March 8,  is "Equality for Women is Progress for All".
