Henry Sy, 9 others join Forbes' billionaires list

Henry S. Sy, Sr. of SM Investments Corp., still emerged as the wealthiest Filipino in the recent Forbes' billionaires list, with a net worth of $11.4 billion, placing 97th globally, down from 68th ($13.2 billion) last year.

A newcomer on the list is "Big" John Gokongwei with a net worth of $3.9 billion placing 388th, after its acquisition of a 27% stake in Manila Electric Co., the country’s largest distribution utility, for $1.6 billion.

• Lucio C. Tan of LT Group, Inc. and family with $6.1 billion, 227th from 248th previously;

• Andrew L. Tan, Jr. of Alliance Global Group, Inc. with $4.7 billion, 319th from 345th;

• Enrique K. Razon, Jr. of International Terminal Container Services, Inc. with $4.2 billion, 354th from 258th;

• John L. Gokongwei, Jr. of JG Summit Holdings, Inc. with $3.9 billion, 388th;

• David M. Consunji of DMCI Holdings, Inc. with $3.3 billion, 483rd from 503rd;

• George S. K. Ty of GT Capital Holdings, Inc. and family with $2.3 billion, 764th from 554th;

• Tony Tan Caktiong of Jollibee Foods Corp. and family with $1.7 billion, 1,046th from 1,031st;

• Roberto Coyiuto, Jr. of National Grid Corp. and PGA Automobile, Inc. with $1.5 billion, 1,154th from 931st; and

• Andrew L. Gotianun, Sr. of Filinvest Development Corp. and family with $1 billion, 1,565th from 1,175th in 2013.


Exiting this year’s list were Lucio and Susan Co of Puregold Price Club, Inc., and Roberto V. Ongpin of Frontier Investment Holdings, Inc., who ranked 736th and 1,175th, respectively, in last year’s global rankings.

Forbes’ 2014 list consists of 1,645 billionaires worth $6.4 trillion, up from 2013’s 1,426 people worth $5.4 trillion.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates was named the world’s richest individual with his net worth of $76 billion, leaping over Mexico’s Carlos Slim Helu ($72 billion), who topped the 2013 list. --Source: Business World Online
