Which of your favorite motels paid the highest taxes -- the top 20 motel taxpayers

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) listed the top 20 motel taxpayers in the country in 2012 which includes topnotcher "Mariposa," a budget hotel who even paid more than 5-star hotels such as Ascott Makati and the Manila Marriot Hotel in Resorts World Manila, the agency's latest Tax Watch ad said.

Highest taxpayer Mariposa paid P73,513,611.37 in income taxes in 2012.

Mariposa, described in its website as a “budget hotel,” has branches in Marikina, Taytay, Cubao, Pasig and Anonas.

Mariposa paid more taxes than most luxury hotels in the country, including Ascott Makati (P55,549,972.80) and Manila Marriott Hotel (P19,450,867.68) in Resorts World Manila.

Coming in second was Anito Lodge with P15,245,464.50 in income taxes paid, while Microtel Inn & Suites came in third with P9,816,513.60 in paid taxes.

Victoria Court, which has 10 properties carrying the brand name, came in fourth with P7,169,659.56 in paid taxes.

Hotel SOGO (P2,361,270.98) and Gardenia Terrace Motel (P1,263,353.99) came in fifth and sixth, respectively.

The BIR said that based on its preliminary review, 14 motels in the country were found to have no Tax Identification Number (TIN).

The tax agency added that its records showed that Bali-Hai Travelodge, Eurotel, Nice Hotel, and Town & Country Sta. Mesa had no income tax due in 2012.
