Shell Eco-Marathon 2014 rolls out 'cars of the future'

Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said this year’s race of solar-powered vehicles would be a big boost to the tourism industry especially the capital.

“Can you imagine of one participant of the marathon would spend $1,000 during the duration of the event in the Manila. That would mean an additional $3 million from the 3,000 delegates coming over. That would be a big help,” Moreno said.

The foreign student-delegates would come from 16 countries in Asia and the Middle East representing Brunei, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Among the competitors are students from Adamson University, De La Salle University, Don Bosco, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Technological Institute of the Philippines in Quezon City, University of San Carlos and University of Sto. Tomas.

Moreno said traffic along Roxas Boulevard, between P. Burgos and T.M. Kalaw Streets, will be diverted and re-routed and appealed to motorists to take alternate routes as the event is likely to cause traffic around the park.

From February 2 to 12, southbound motorists or those going to Pasay area from Bonifacio Drive should turn left to P. Burgos, right to Ma. Orosa, right to T.M. Kalaw, and left to reach Roxas Boulevard.

From February 2 to 5 and February 10 to 12 (12 a.m. to 4 a.m.), northbound motorists along Roxas Boulevard going to Intramuros or port area should turn right at T.M. Kalaw, left to Ma. Orosa, left to P. Burgos, and right to reach Bonifacio Drive.
