The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) recently introduced TVolution, a new plug and play device which lets you access the internet right through your TV sets.
So, what really is the TVolution device?
The TVolution transforms HDMI-ready TV sets to an Internet TV that can browse, stream movies, play games and access other multimedia content. It operates on an Android-based platform and connects to any HDMI-ready TV and syncs with a PLDT HOME WiFi connection.
What does it do?
According to PLDT vice president Gary Dujali, you can watch internet content not just from your computer but straight towards your television screen. What it does is, if you have a regular or an ordinary TV, it transforms the ordinary TV into an internet TV.
What can you expect from TVolution?
It has pre-installed content such as movies and TV series, which Dujali said will be updated in the coming months. Aside from watching movies and TV shows, the device also allows subscribers to surf the internet and play games using a PLDT HOME Telpad or any Android device as a remote control.
What about the specs?
The device includes 4GB of internal data storage, a microSD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI input and output and two USB ports.
Will it work on other internet providers?
Dujali said the device will work with other internet providers, but he noted that lab researches showed that the TVolution “will only be optimal for a certain speed,” particularly with PLDT’s fiber optic technology.

Offered through PLDT HOME, PLDT subscribers will have to pay an additional P199 to the monthly Fibr subscriptions to access the content.
Wait, Fibr?
Fibr, PLDT’s fiber optic broadband service that can deliver speeds of up to 100 Mbps, was launched in 2013. From its initial launch of 200 exclusive subdivisions in the country, Dujali said fiber optic technology now caters to about 1,000 villages. Recently, PLDT expanded its fiber network to 78,000 kilometers as part of the P19 billion capital expenditure modernization investment of the PLDT Group.
“We are now into multimedia, it’s a different space. Apart from just giving you strong access, connection with fiber or DSL, we give you a host of other features that you can make use of with your broadband access,” Dujali said in an ABS-CBN interview.
“It’s a way of redefining the whole market, gone are the days that you talk about ‘P900 = 1MB.’ It’s about the whole multimedia package,” he added. -- Source: ABS-CBN News
