The Department of Justice - National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance online application starts on Friday, January 24, 2014 through the agency's website.
The announcement came after the agency received massive complaints from applicants who have to endure serpentine queues on NBI satellite offices nationwide.
DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima said in an advisory:
"With the implementation of the new NBI system, we shall continue to roll out and implement solutions to progressively eliminate queues and simplify processes,"
"Online application is the next logical step for the switch."
De Lima said applicants may complete the form at www.doj.gov.ph/nbi or www.nbi.gov.ph.
After the online registration, applicants may proceed to any of the 55 NBI sites nationwide for the payment and biometric enrollment for the release of the clearance. A list of these areas is also available at NBI's website.
The NBI system is now run by the DOJ, a first in the agency's history and substantially upgrades the old systems.
Newly appointed NBI Director Virgilio L. Mendez said:
"This is just our third full week of operation under our watch but we expect significant progress in the coming weeks with the delivery of additional equipment and increase in personnel."
