The Philippines' Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning the public against slimming underwear, asking manufacturers to recall their products being sold to the retail and online market.
The Department of Health's FDA warns consumers against buying so-called slimming underwear, which, advertisers claim, can help detoxify the body, and burn fats.
The FDA has monitored a slimming underwear product, with the brand name Onami, being advertised in print and online with the following claims: To detoxify and burn fats, strengthen the immune system, reduce fatigue and stress, among others.
Upon further investigation, the product turned out to not have been registered with the FDA.
The FDA regulates all devices that have therapeutic or health claims, and manufacturers or distributors of such devices need to secure a license to operate, and to submit clinical reports or studies to substantiating the product's therapeutic claim.
Manufacturers are, meantime, asked to recall the items from the market.--Source: Solar News
