Lizzie Valasquez, labeled as ‘the world’s ugliest woman’ by Internet users have chosen to use their cruel comments to achieve her goals, according to news website The Telegraph.
During her TEDx talk, Valasquez described how she discovered a Youtube video of herself dubbed "world's ugliest woman," and how she turned the taunting comments about her appearance into motivation for her future.
She said:
"Am I going to let the people who called me a monster define me? No. I'm going to let my goals and my success and my accomplishments be the things that define me,”
"The best way that I could get back at all those people who made fun of me…was to make myself better,"
"I'm going to let my goals and my success and my accomplishments define me, not my outer appearance."
"This morning when I woke up, my phone, email, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook were about to explode with love!!”
The Texas native said she received “INCREDIBLE messages of support and love,” following her speech.
Valasquez was born with a medical condition which causes her to have a hyperactive metabolism, leaving her 64 pound (27 kilograms) frame unable to gain weight. The condition also left her blind in one eye.
