Apple has been very strong in the tablet department selling tons and tons of the previous 9.7 inch iPad ever since it first launched way back in 2010. And now you have the Mini version which is a smaller version of an iPad for those who don't see the need for a 10-inch tablet.

Apple iPad Mini 2: The small but powerful tablet

Measuring at just 200 x 134.7 x 7.5 mm (7.87 x 5.30 x 0.30 in) and weighing in at 331 g for the WiFi) model and 341 g for the 3G and LTE model. That’s extremely lightweight for a tablet of that size.

The iPad Mini 2 has a LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with retina display and having the same pixel count as the recently launched iPad Air with 1536 x 2048 pixels. It also comes with oleophobic coating for extra protection.

But with just a Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone and 1GB RAM, Apple is well known to fully utilize it to the fullest without going out with the quadies and the 2GB RAM of its other competitors. It is also powered by the same, the very latest A7 chip as the iPad Air; which was designed with 64-bit architecture to further give it a boost.

As for the cameras, iPad Mini 2 is equipped with a 5 Megapixel primary capable of taking shots up to 2592x1944 pixels plus features like autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and HDR supporting it. As for the secondary camera, it’s fitted with a 1.2 Megapixel which allows for face detection and FaceTime over Wi-Fi or Cellular same as what’s on the iPad Air.

iPad Mini 2 comes also with the latest iOS 7.0.4 with lots of apps like no other. Also comes with great built-in apps for the everyday things, like checking email and surfing the web. To help you be even more creative and productive, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are now available for free. If that’s not enough, head on over to the App Store where over 475,000 other incredible iPad apps are available.

With a non-removable Li-Po 4,440 battery, almost half of the iPad Air, expect it to last for a day of two of usage.

There’s nothing much to separate the iPad Air with the iPad Mini 2 except for the different size obviously. So it’s down to a matter of preference, if you want a full-size tablet experience, then iPad Air for you, if you like a slightly smaller version, then iPad Mini 2 should be your pick.

The Apple iPad Mini 2 price starts from the cheapest $399 USD (roughly PHP18,000) for the 16GB Wifi model up to the most expensive 128GB Wifi + Cellular at $829 USD (roughly PHP37,000) and is available in Space Gray/Black, Silver/White. -- Review by Eza Ezamie of WhaTech
