The annual UP Oblation Run kicked off Friday morning at UP Diliman with members of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity joining the event wearing nothing but masks.
The naked runners expressed their grievances over the government's alleged failure to manage the disaster caused by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Visayas region.
Latest figures from the government's NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) showed the death toll from the strongest typhoon ever to make landfall has reached 6,009 with 1,779 still missing.
The Oblation Run (sometimes referred to as the Ritual Dance of the Brave) is an annual event held by the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) fraternity in different universities in the Philippines. It drew its name from the Oblation, a statue of a nude man located in every University of the Philippines (UP) campus, which symbolizes "a selfless offering of one’s self to the country."

In December 2005, two unidentified naked women, reportedly Koreans, joined the Oblation Run at UP Diliman. This is the first ever instance that women took part in the occasion. The two, wearing masks to hide their identities, held banners promoting equal rights for women. After posing for photographers, they entered a car which then sped off. The act was condemned by APO.-- Photo credits: ABS-CBN News, Yahoo News, Xinhua.net, Liyamblog.friendster
