The best part of the MMDA decision is that EDSA (Epifanio delos Santos Avenue) will be truck-free for 24 hours a day, during the implementation.

In a memorandum released by the MMDA chairperson Francis Tolentino on Wednesday, the truck ban will be effective on Friday, December 13, in order to manage the expected heavy traffic during the Christmas season.

“During this period, the Uniform Truck Ban Hours in Metro Manila shall be from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.,” he said.

Meanwhile, routes from South Luzon Expressway (Slex) to pier via South Superhighway and vice versa and routes from North Luzon Expressway (Nlex) to pier via A. Bonifacio Avenue and vice versa shall follow the 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. uniform truck ban.

But EDSA will remain off-limits to all kinds of trucks for 24 hours.

“Uniform truck ban shall be lifted on December 21, Truck Ban Ordinance Implementing Uniform Truck Ban Hours in Metro Manila from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. everyday except Sundays and Holidays,” Tolentino noted.

Cargo trucks and other similar vehicles loaded with agricultural products and perishable goods will be exempted from the ban.--Source: Sun Star
