Rosemarie Gatan, an assistant branch manager of BPI's Taft Avenue branch, was rushed to the Medical Center Manila hospital but was declared dead on arrival, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.

Gatan was driving her sport-utility vehicle on her way to work along busy Taft Avenue in Manila when she was ambushed. She was hit in the nape, the report said.

A report on "Balitanghali" quoted a relative of Gatan as saying she was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

A policeman responding to the incident said the shooting occurred on the northbound part of Taft Avenue, near Cosmopolitan Church, the dzBB report said.

Gatan's silver-gray Mazda CX7 SUV (PBQ-172) came to a stop across the National Bureau of Investigation after the attack.

Recovered from the scene was a slug from a Super .38 handgun, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Manila Police District is checking closed-circuit television footage to get the license plate number of the motorcycle used by the gunman.

Police are also verifying theories that the ambush was a case of mistaken identity, or that the gunman could have been targeting Gatan's new SUV.

The report said Gatan's friends and relatives said she had no known enemies.

Thursday's ambush in broad daylight occurred despite the continued enforcement of an election gun ban, which lasts until June 12.--Source: GMA News
