The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will begin the implementation of the exclusive motorcycle lane and other dedicated lanes on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City starting today March 27.
This is along Commonwealth Avenue from Elliptical Road to Doña Carmen.
The 1st lane from the sidewalk is exclusive for bicyclists;
2nd Lane is exclusive for public transport;
3rd Lane is exclusive for motorcyclists;
4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Lane are for other vehicles.
Here are the guidelines for the full implementation of Commonwealth Avenue's Exclusive Motorcycle Lane
WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING SIDE STREETS OR INTERSECTIONS
Vehicles wishing to enter or exit a side street or intersection must only deviate from their dedicated lane using transition lines or pavement markings installed 100 meters from the solid line (depending on the width of the road) of their respective lane.
WHEN ENTERING OR LEAVING AN ESTABLISHMENT
Vehicles going to or from an establishment along Commonwealth Avenue can exit the dedicated lane from a distance of 200 meters.
WHEN USING THE U-TURN SLOTS
U-turn vehicles are allowed to deviate from their dedicated lane 200 meters from the U-turn slot to be used.
MMDA encourages the use of the dedicated lane for road users.
Violators will be fined:
Public Utility Vehicle driver - P1,200
Motorcycle rider - P500
Private motorist - P500
The placement of lane designations on Commonwealth Avenue is to reduce the number of accidents including motorcycle-related road crash incidents and ensure smooth traffic flow on the said street.
