If you're wondering why electric cars are very popular in China-- it is because of the many models they offer.
One of them is the urban car Wuling Mini EV, which is currently the second best-selling electric car in the world in 2022.
It's no surprise, then, that direct rivals of Wuling Motors are scrambling to come up with similar alternatives.
Such is the case with Geely (the group which owns Volvo and Smart brands, among other things), that had just launched the Panda Mini EV - which design is in reference to China's cute-and-cuddly black-and-white bear.
The Panda Mini EV was shown for the first time in a shopping mall in Hangzhou, China, which was deliberately immersed in a special colorful atmosphere with pink and blue balloons and lots of panda toys.
EXTERIOR
The Panda Mini EV's style is inspired by the bear family of the same name.
In fact, this is evident from the exterior which starts with the large round headlights that resemble two eyes and mirrors that look like real ears.
Another reference to the panda is the special design of the three-spoked wheels and the dual body color, with a black roof.
Right in front (in lieu of the grille) is the word Geome which probably stands for Geometry, one of the sub-brands of Geely.
The Panda Mini EV is 3,605 mm long, 1,522 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall, and has a 2,015 mm wheelbase.
POWER
The powertrain consists of a single 41 HP electric motor installed at the front, with a lithium-ion-phosphate battery that can go to a range of around 150 kilometers.
INTERIOR
Inside, the cabin has room for 4 people, and is equipped with a large panoramic sunroof. In the center of the dashboard is a large central infotainment touch screen and an elongated rectangular digital panel. Right below the two central air vents are the air conditioning control knobs. Storage compartments are also available in the dashboard area.
With an expected debut in 2023 in Asia, the Panda Mini EV is expected to have a list price of between ¥40,000 and ¥50,000 ($5,760 – $7,200). Locally (via direct conversion to our currency) the car could go from PHP 320,000 to PHP 400,000 -- plus, of course, additional import fees and duties. It will be available in pink and light blue colorways.
