A call center agent hanged himself inside a motel room before dawn yesterday after losing more than P200,000 in cash during a robbery last Thursday.

A typical call center agent
Female investigator PO3 Jaime de Jesus identified the suicide as call center agent Alexander Santos, 40, a resident of Standford St., Barangay E. Rodriguez, Cubao, Quezon City.

De Jesus said that Santos was found dead at around 4 a.m. inside the bathroom of Room 103 of Yale Apartelle located along Yale St., also in Barangay E. Rodriguez.

The investigator said the victim was already on the floor with a nylon cord around his neck. He said the nylon cord may have snapped.

Also found on the table of the room were a suicide note, a return to work order from the victim’s company, and his statement before the Cubao Police Station about a robbery incident last Thursday.

The suicide note only contained an apology addressed to the parents and wife of Santos, the investigator cited.

De Jesus learned that Santos checked in alone at the apartelle at around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

According to the apartelle cashier, Alexander Base, Santos gave instructions to wake him up at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday as he explained he needed to go somewhere.

However, when Base went to Santos’s room at 3:30 a.m. yesterday, there was no response from the victim which eventually led the motel staff to open the door using a spare key.

The investigator learned from the victim’s family that Santos also has lending business and most of his clients were fellow call center agents.

However, De Jesus learned that Santos has been absent without leave (AWOL) for around a week.

The family of Santos thought that he was still working since he leaves home on the usual hours he goes to work.

The investigator also learned that Santos got robbed last Thursday where he lost more than P200,000 in cash as well as the ATM cards of his co-workers.

De Jesus explained that Santos withdraws from the ATMs the payment of the loans. --Source: Tempo
