Imagine trying to renew your driver's license only to find out that you have a lot of outstanding violations you didn't even commit.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is trying to meet the challenge of more fake driver's licenses now that they are easier to obtain online. Many of these fake licenses are being peddled over bogus Facebook accounts and operated by counterfeiters with sophisticated equipment who can replicate LTO (Land Transportation Office) licenses to near-perfection.
Near-perfection not only because the licenses they produce are almost identical to the real deal, but because they had been using legit license numbers owned by real-life, existent drivers.
In this video from Gadget Addict, MMDA traffic chief Edison "Bong" Nebrija confronts a motorcycle rider after discovering he was using a fake driver's license which carries an actual license number assigned to another driver.
