The Land Transportation Office (LTO) strongly warns the public to avoid transacting with certain Facebook pages posing as LTO assistance centers.
Particularly mentioned is a bogus FB account which goes by the name, "LTO License Assistance" that offers fake driver’s licenses and student permits for a hefty fee. It, however, is unauthorized and not connected in any way to LTO, the agency said.
The fake account says it can process speedy LTO license transactions such as Student Permits, Non-Professional Driver's Licenses, and Direct Non-Professional Driver's Licenses. Each transaction costs between P3,500 to P6,500, depending on the type of license and the restriction codes an applicant wants to appear on it.
An add-on fee of P500 is charged to an applicant if he opts for a non-appearance transaction. A non-appearance service means a new applicant no longer has to take the LTO written and practical driving tests.
Applicants are reminded not to transact with the bogus Facebook page, as well as with other accounts offering similar services, as all licenses coming from them are surely fake and will not be recognized by the LTO. Heavy penalties will be imposed on individuals caught with fake licenses, the agency added.
As of date, the fake account, "LTO License Assistance", has deactivated itself from Facebook, and could already have changed its name to a new one.
The public is also encouraged to report similar Facebook accounts to prevent further fraud and inconvenience to applicants.
