Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia opens 2021 with the announcement that production of the Isuzu Crosswind is officially discontinued without a replacement.

Isuzu Crosswind officially rides off into the sunset

In a virtual press conference Wednesday, the company released a video stating that the Isuzu Crosswind (known as Panther in Indonesia) will be discontinued and the company is ready to focus on the commercial vehicle segment with a line up such as the Isuzu D-Max, Isuzu Elf, Isuzu Traviz/Traga, and Isuzu Giga. In addition, the company will launch two new models this year.

The Isuzu Crosswind, which was once anointed as the 'king of diesel', began production in Indonesia in 1991 and has emerged as a tough competitor to Toyota Tamaraw/Revo and Mitsubishi Adventure in the medium-sized multipurpose car segment.

The Tamaraw/Revo was the first to go and was replaced by the Innova. The Adventure was next to retire when it ceased production in 2017. Production of the Crosswind ended last year and is seen until February 2020 when its last units rolled off the assembly line.

The news about the end of the Isuzu Crosswind production began in early 2020. At that time, Isuzu had been sending signals that it will be ending the Crosswind model rather than developing it following the adoption of the Euro 4 emission standard in Indonesia since 2018.

In Indonesia, gasoline-fed cars are required to meet Euro 4 standards since September 2018, while diesel-run engines are required to follow suit effective March 10, 2021.
