Honda has finally unveiled the City Hatchback version, and in appearance looks exactly like the City sedan model, but without the tail trunk.
The new City model was previously launched in Thailand ahead of other countries and offers three variants (S+, SV, RS). It could, and will, probably land into more Asian countries in the months to follow.
Power
It features a new 1,000 cc 3-cylinder DOHC VTEC TURBO engine, which can produce a maximum power of 122 PS or the equivalent of 120 hp at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 173 Nm at 2,000 to 4,500 rpm.
The transmission system is a six-speed manual gearbox and a CVT for the automatic versions.
Fuel consumption is claimed to perform at an economical ratio of 23.3 km/liter, which can be achievable, thanks to its compact engine.
Features
One of the exciting amenities of the City Hatchback is the backseat configuration that folds into a 60/40 layout, which gives the car four different arrangements: the utility, long, tall and refresh modes. (See photos below)
The rear end features LED tail lamps that resemble those of the Honda City sedan. The top RS variant, however, gets a black finish at the lower section of its rear bumper, vertical bumper-mounted reflectors and an RS badge on the tailgate (photo below). The two lesser variants don't have these, but they may be available as after-market upgrades later on.
The front section has LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights, and LED fog lamps: while the cockpit houses a Honda smart key system, push button start, automatic AC with digital display screen, and cruise control.
The City Hatchback is also equipped with Honda CONNECT, a technology that connects the driver and the car via a smartphone application, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and multi-angle rearview camera.
Safety features include six airbags, speed sensing auto door lock, child Isofix anchors, emergency signal system, balance control system with cornering vehicle stability assist, and a hill start assist.
It meets EURO 5 standards and said to produce a minimal CO2 emission level of only 100 grams per kilometer. The European standard is actually 95 GPK, so the City Hatchback is quite close to getting there.
Rumors
It has been speculated that the City Hatchback might just replace the third generation Jazz, which has not received some refreshers for quite a time. It still remains to be seen though, as Honda has been mum about the rumor.
So, will we see the Honda City Hatchback rolling in our streets soon?
We don't know it yet, but it's within reach. We've seen quite a number of City generations in the past years so the hatchback model appearing here in our shores is likely to happen. If it does happen, it could be sold at around PHP959,000 for the standard S+ option, PHP1.09 Million for the SV and PHP1.2 Million for the RS version. These prices are direct conversion from Thai currency, though the figures could possibly go lower in the Philippine market. Hopefully.
Hybrid City Version
Honda also launched another City variant, the HEV model that carries a hybrid engine, powered by a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine that generates 97hp and 127Nm combined with an electric motor that’s capable of 107hp and 253Nm of torque.
Hybrid cars are big news right now, and for good reason. The combination of regular combustion engine, electric motor and battery pack provides better fuel economy and lower running costs as well as cleaner air.
Color Range
Available Colors: Platinum White (Pearl), Crystal Black (Pearl) and Sonic Gray (Pearl). Ignite Red for RS models, Platinum white only for RS, SV models, Taffeta white, only for S + type.
