The University of the Philippines Street Dance Club once again took home the bronze at the Megacrew Division at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship held August 11 (August 12 MNL) in Las Vegas, USA.
The group tails behind Praise Team from Canada, which won silver, and Royal Family from New Zealand, which took the gold.
The UP Street Dance Club, which also bagged 3rd place in last year's MegaCrew competition, was consistently among the top scoring teams in the eliminations.
In the semi-finals, they placed 2nd with a score of 8.75, coming short of Royal Family's score of 8.97.
During last Thursday’s MegaCrew preliminaries, the Philippine flags were waved high for the top 3 teams from the Philippines.
Also representing the Philippines in the MegaCrew finals were preliminary 1st placers and semi-finals 4th placers, La Salle Dance Company Street.
Meanwhile, Pinoy bets Philippine AllStars, which placed 3rd in the Adult Division prelims, were bested by teams Rockwell from Canada (Gold), Identity from New Zealand (Silver), and Elecoldxhot from Malaysia (Bronze).
A total of 9 teams representing the Philippines competed during the 6-day competition.
Other participating Pinoy crews rocking the world hip-hop stage during the preliminaries and semi-finals include Legit Status, A Team, and LMN for the Varsity division; ADDLIB and Unschooled for the Adult division; and the MegaCrew team of the Philippine Allstars.
Top crews from all over the world battled it out for the top spots in Junior, Varisity, Adult, and MegaCrew divisions.
Canada proved to be this year’s big winners as Canadian teams placed 1st in the Junior, Varsity, and Adult divisions and 2nd in the Megacrew division.
It’s a hat trick for New Zealand MegaCrew, Royal Family, which has yet to be dethroned since the inclusion of the MegaCrew division in the 2011 competition.
