HERE'S a situation. You just finished lunch from your favorite restaurant standing in line waiting for your turn to use the ladies room when suddenly a woman comes rushing in flashing a "CAN'T WAIT" card and said she got the priority to use the toilet. Your human nature tells you not to allow her because you were there first, but human etiquette tells you can't just refuse her.
The "Can't Wait" card is already accepted widely in places such as Singapore, Britain, Australia, Canada and in some parts of the US. These cards are used by people who suffer from chronic conditions which get them running to the toilet constantly, with very little time to spare.
This condition is called Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. People who have this disease suffer from severe stomachaches and diarrhea, and may need the toilet up to 20 times a day during an attack. Patients under medical therapy still has to use the toilet five to six times a day.
We don't know really know how many Filipinos are suffering from Crohn's Disease, but an extrapolated statistics from website Right Diagnosis shows that there are presently more than 100, 000 sufferers in the country.
If the Philippines will embrace the "Can't Wait" card, patients with this disease will be able to flash a card to get priority in toilet queues, while not having to explain why they have to use the rest room first.
The only question is, will it work here in the Philippines?
It's gonna be a long, hard job for the government to convince the citizens about the urgency of the matter. Just like in the past when people weren't convinced that senior citizens and PWDs (persons with disabilities) should have priority during long queues. Laws like the Republic Act No. 9994 and Republic Act No. 10645 were have to be passed to give this benefits to senior citizen, as well as Republic Act No. 7277 and Republic Act No.10524 for PWDs.
